Most commonly the consultancy we offer is saving customers money by providing a liaison service between our clients and environmental regulators. If the environmental regulator were to identify your business as a cause for concern they have the authority to make a range of demands including issuing improvement notices, delaying permits, and, in the most extreme cases, business closure.
The environmental regulators sole interest is preventing water pollution with little concern for your budget restraints or disruption to your business. Environmental agencies often make recommendations that will undoubtedly address the issue but may involve dated techniques, technology or extensive civil works.
Sandfield Penstock Solutions are busy saving our customers tens of thousands of pounds by recommending and implementing the latest solutions that satisfy the environmental regulators at a fraction of the cost and with a fraction of the disruption. The way the legislation and guidances are structured the minimum requirement is that you are showing willing and can evidence that you are making progress towards compliance, having someone in your corner who speaks the environmental regulators language could save you a huge amount of time, energy and money.
Why would you need an expert witness?
If you were to come under investigation from an environmental agency, or the very worst were to happen and you find yourself defending a pollution release charge, our expert insights could save you a significant amount of time and money.
Sandfield Penstock Solutions have acted as expert witness and trouble shooters for a number of customers when they have come under investigation or faced a charge of causing water pollution.
We have successfully supported our clients in a number of instances by establishing that their water pollution prevention systems and processes were appropriate to the risk but there were mitigating circumstances like the source of the pollution pollution came from sources other than our customers site. In every case we work with our customers to identify the root cause of the water pollution and present this information along with a clear plan of how this risk has been will be controlled going forward.
CIRIA c736 Consultancy & Advice – Case Study
Here is a recent example of how the CIRIA c736 consultancy and advice that we provide saved a .
A food manufacturer came to Penstock Solutions because they were recieving attention from the Environment Agency as oil was leaving their premises and entering a watercourse. The site’s response, unsurprisingly, was to address the issue as quickly as possible and sourced and implemented spill booms to stem the flow and contain the contaminated material.
After several months of collecting and disposing of the contaminated waste, the costs had become prohibitively high and the source of the problem had still not been identified. At this point, Penstock Solutions were approached by the client to investigate. On closer inspection it quickly transpired that the oil flow didn’t originate on their property, and as such was not their responsibility.
The customer had been about to invest £25,000 to complete a CCTV Drainage Survey, which was unlikely to have identified the source of the issue. Drawing on our experience of pollution flow we completed a drainage connectivity study which very quickly identified the contamination source. Not only were we able to save the site the £25,000 on the unnecessary CCTV survey, we also saved the thousands that were being spent on disposing of the contaminated materials and provided the quickest response to what could have quickly become a major issue.
