Flow Isolation

During any pollution event you are required to stop any flow from leaving your site. Whether the spill is caused by a storm, fire or  spill, the regulations are clear, you are responsible.

During any pollution event there will be a need to stop a flow from leaving a site. It could be from a fire or a spill on site. This is seen as isolating the pathway. There are many methods utilised by industry to stop a flow. It is essential if you are looking to stop flow that you select the right products. You may have invested in barriers or manual spill products. Can these be implemented safely during a spill or fire? Or should you be looking at fully automated flow isolation.

The most common drainage closure devise is the “Penstock valve” this is defined as a sluice for controlling or directing the flow of water. This type of valve does not mean the flow of pollution will actually stop; in fact many pollution events occur because a valve leaked or just closed too slowly.

When selecting flow isolation you must decide on what you want to achieve and evidence how much control you have. Simply isolating a flow could move the flow to another unprotected area.

Sandfield Penstock solutions look at flow control by first understanding the source of any potential pollutant and then the pathways above or below ground that we need to manage.
